All she wants to do is relive their moments together. Sure, but I didn’t feel like that lessened its appeal or emotional pull. Like till the point my mom had to take away my book!

I felt slightly as though Mmeg had been added as a tool to speed up the situation within the story and, ultimately, just show literary knowledge. Jam soon finds out, though, that as nice as it is to be back together with Reeve, nothing new can happen – only the same old stuff that had already happened.

Instead, our teacher glances at the extremely small face of the gold watch on her long wrist, and frowns slightly, the way people do when they look at the time. wolitzfr

Jun 02, Giselle rated it liked it Shelves: Jam’s classmates include Griffin, good-looking “but in a hostile way”; Sierra, an African-American girl who looks model perfect; Marc, president of the student council and captain of the debate team; and Casey, new to a wheelchair. The voice really drives this novel, and Jam’s voice is compelling, her actions and decisions flawed, and her approaches to new relationships in her life consistent with what we know initially, as well as what we learn about her as the story goes.

And while the Belzhar hallucinations are alluring, Jam ultimately gains the emotional energy to move forward.


If I hadn’t read the ending of this novel, I would give this book around 3 stars. Her personality seems a little unpredictable—shifting between impatient and sympathetic. I hated it in the store, and I hated it again when it sat on my bed in The Wooden Barn with wolutzer arms out. The range of emotion was wide. If you’re going to deal with mental illness in a book, do it the right meeg.

But, I loved the premise of this book, and think that many teens would probably get a lot out of it, too. Do you know how unusual it is that you got in?

I didn’t manage to gain any emotional bond with any of the characters. Like Jam just seemed to suddenly be friends with certain people without seeing what led up to it.

Even though they were only together for 41 days, their feelings for each other were so intense, and Jam is unable to cope with her grief, which upsets her family and alienates her closest friends.
